Thirty Years of Giving!
In 1984 four couples had a vision for a unique Christian store – run cooperatively using volunteers, selling at discount, and supporting community ministries with proceeds. There have been many changes over the years. Business demands required that we begin using paid help (although there is still plenty of room for volunteers!), and across-the-board discounting has been discontinued, but our vision is still to support area ministry.
The Scroll is a full line nonprofit Christian store, offering books, Bibles, gifts, music and specializing in homeschool supplies. We are open Mon-Sat from 9-8 to the general public. Over the last 30 years we have generated well in excess of 1 million dollars for local charity.
Even though we are a nonprofit store, our goal is to make a profit each year… intentionally. We distribute that money to area ministries chosen by our board of directors. As a completely home-grown entity, The Scroll is able to concentrate our giving and our business on friends and neighbors right here in East Texas. We are blessed that our retail products can impact lives for eternity, but we are doubly blessed to be able to support area ministries through the proceeds.
Our primary emphasis for giving has been in the area of crisis pregnancy, through the ministry of Living Alternatives, in Lindale, TX. In addition to helping Living Alternative with their building projects we’ve been able to donate Bibles to all the ladies coming through their ministry. It is a special joy to be able to place the comfort of God’s word in the hands of these women when they need it most.
Over the years we’ve been able to support a number of other important local ministries as well, including KVNE, Pine Cove Christian Camps, Azleway Boy’s Ranch, and Child Evangelism Fellowship to name a few.
